Clothing Swap Event

Kimberly Schwartz's Apartment in Ivy Garden (map)

SWAP don't SHOP! Bring your gently used clothes and trade them with other guests to make a fashion that is new to you! All unwanted clothes will be donated to charity! What to bring: 10+ gently used and cleaned clothing items. You can bring baby, children and/or adult sized clothing!

Rules: Once all the clothing is setup we will pull numbers to see who will shop first. 3 people will shop at a time. Each person will have 3 clothespins to pin the items they would like! If shoppers pin the same item then they will roll a dice to see who keeps the item. Winner keeps it and loser re-pins a new item. Each round of 3 shoppers will receive 1 item. Once all shoppers receive 1 item in the next round shoppers will receive 2 items and this process will continue until everyone leaves with as many items as desired.

Ronald McDonald House of Charlottesville (map)

Join the DPA in making dinner for the residents of Charlottesville’s Ronald McDonald House, which provides a home away from home for families with children suffering from long-term illnesses and serious injuries. Volunteers can either contribute by donating ingredients for the meal, joining other DPA members in cooking in the evening at the Ronald McDonald House kitchen, or both! Children and student partners are welcome.

This month, we are making Chicken Enchiladas! To sign up to contribute, fill out the Google Doc: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1c75HepUJUmwF8gmhf7gt_KvwK51U8JX1upekEzE3hHs/edit#gid=0

If you are planning to help prepare the meal at the RMH kitchen from 5:30-7 p.m., just bring your donated ingredients with you. You may park in any available space in the RMH parking lot. If you can't come to help cook but still want to donate ingredients, you may drop them off at the RMH kitchen any time before 5:30 p.m. on the day of the dinner. Please be aware that the RMH facility is always locked. You will have to use the call pad to buzz the front desk.

All food must be prepared in the RMH kitchen or a commercial kitchen (restaurant, grocery store, etc.). You can purchase prepared foods to donate but you cannot prepare food at home to bring to RMH.

Book Choice: The Light We Lost by Jill Santopolo

Looking forward to this book. This was Reese Witherspoon’s book club book for February and the reviews say you just can’t put it down. Hope you can get some reading in over spring break!
He was the first person to inspire her, to move her, to truly understand her. Was he meant to be the last?

Lucy is faced with a life-altering choice. But before she can make her decision, she must start her story—their story—at the very beginning.

Lucy and Gabe meet as seniors at Columbia University on a day that changes both of their lives forever. Together, they decide they want their lives to mean something, to matter. When they meet again a year later, it seems fated—perhaps they’ll find life’s meaning in each other. But then Gabe becomes a photojournalist assigned to the Middle East and Lucy pursues a career in New York. What follows is a thirteen-year journey of dreams, desires, jealousies, betrayals, and, ultimately, of love. Was it fate that brought them together? Is it choice that has kept them away? Their journey takes Lucy and Gabe continents apart, but never out of each other’s hearts.
